SUMMARY:MYgraine: A User-Centered Approach to Develop and Design a Mobile
 Health Application for Migraines
DESCRIPTION:Oral Presentations\n\nMYgraine: A User-Centered Approach to De
velop and Design a Mobile Health Application for Migraines\n\nLettie, Mell
es, McCarty, Simpson\n\nThe Human Factors and Ergonomics Society hosted a
student design competition. The competition prompt was to create an intera
ctive prototype for a novel mobile health application. As the winners of t
his competition, this presentation will discuss our prototype mobile healt
h application that is intended to be used to track and prevent migraines f
or its users. Migraines are a common and sometimes debilitating condition
with symptoms including pain, nausea, and visual distortions. The negativ
e effects and severity of this condition are what motivated the creation o
f this prototype, MYgraine. The prototype was developed using Figma, a pro
totyping software that allows for a collaborative and dynamic design exper
ience. It focuses on aid during migraine attacks, accessibility, and tailo
red information. MYgraine was created from a usability perspective, in or
der to design an user-friendly application, utilizing personas, competitor
s analysis, heuristic evaluations, and user testing. Examples of how thes
e and other human factors methods led to multiple improvements and iterati
ons of the prototype are discussed. Also highlighted in this presentation
are the limitations of similar applications that are currently on the mar
ket, and how this prototype addresses those issues. Some key features of t
his application include an SOS feature, for use during migraine attacks, a
text-to-speech feature, for those who have visual distortions from migrai
nes or visual impairments, and a green light theme, for those who have sen
sitivity to light during migraines. Also influential in the design of MYgr
aine is its business viability, if it were to become a real mobile applica
tion, and the future directions and plans for the prototype.
