Michael Wiklund
Biography
Michael Wiklund, MS, CHFP, PE
Michael serves as the General Manager of Emergo by UL’s Human Factors Research & Design team. He is a board-certified human factors professional. He has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at Tufts University for over 30 years, pioneering a focus on applying human factors to medical technology at Tufts University and annually teaching graduate-level human factors courses on the topic. He has been a major contributor to several US and international standards on human factors, including IEC 62366-1, IEC 62366-2, AAMI HE75, and more. Michael is author, co-author, and/or editor of multiple books on human factors including Designing Usability Into Medical Devices, Usability in Practice, Handbook of Human Factors in Medical Device Design, Usability Testing of Medical Devices, Medical Device Use Error: Root Cause Analysis, Writing Human Factors Plans and Reports, and Designing for Safe Use. He has published over 70 technical articles on myriad human factors topics and has served repeatedly as a juror in product design competitions conducted by International Design Magazine and MD&DI Magazine. He holds several user interface design patents. Michael is a Fellow in the William Henry Merrill Society, which recognizes UL employees who have made significant and sustained contributions to the fulfillment of UL’s public safety mission.
