DescriptionA well-designed medical product enables patients to live longer and better, helps healthcare providers deliver care, and permits caregivers to provide for loved ones. A poorly-designed product, however, can harm or kill.
Research Collective has experience evaluating the design of medical devices and software—we did 82 studies in 2021 alone! As we’ve evaluated countless medical devices and software over the years, we’ve noticed the same design problems over and over again. This led us to develop a framework to categorize common design issues across perceptual, cognitive, physical, and procedural issues.
Join us as we explore the areas poor deign can be found (devices, software, packaging, IFUs), walk through 5 key mistakes to look out for, see real-world client examples from our archives (humorously anonymized as the fictional company), and explore best practices to make better design decisions from the start.
At the end of this talk you’ll be able to identify and solve for (and prevent) some of the most common design issues in medical products.
