DescriptionThe Human Factors and Ergonomics Society hosted a student design competition. The competition prompt was to create an interactive prototype for a novel mobile health application. As the winners of this competition, this presentation will discuss our prototype mobile health application that is intended to be used to track and prevent migraines for its users. Migraines are a common and sometimes debilitating condition with symptoms including pain, nausea, and visual distortions. The negative effects and severity of this condition are what motivated the creation of this prototype, MYgraine. The prototype was developed using Figma, a prototyping software that allows for a collaborative and dynamic design experience. It focuses on aid during migraine attacks, accessibility, and tailored information. MYgraine was created from a usability perspective, in order to design an user-friendly application, utilizing personas, competitors analysis, heuristic evaluations, and user testing. Examples of how these and other human factors methods led to multiple improvements and iterations of the prototype are discussed. Also highlighted in this presentation are the limitations of similar applications that are currently on the market, and how this prototype addresses those issues. Some key features of this application include an SOS feature, for use during migraine attacks, a text-to-speech feature, for those who have visual distortions from migraines or visual impairments, and a green light theme, for those who have sensitivity to light during migraines. Also influential in the design of MYgraine is its business viability, if it were to become a real mobile application, and the future directions and plans for the prototype.
