DescriptionCurrently, there is limited work within the human factors field focused on role of nursing and nursing practice. This panel will bring together applied and research-oriented human factors practitioners who conduct work which impacts nurses and nursing practice. Two of the panelists will present on their current research which focuses on understanding and improving nursing practice and will include topics such as medication safety within nursing, nurses' perception of the usability of electronic medication administration records, nursing burnout, and prospective memory of nurses during medication administration. Two of the panelists will also discuss their experience and unique perspective having a background as a practicing nurse and working in the human factors field. In particular, this panel will be able to shed light on the most pressing challenges within nursing that human factors practitioners are well equipped to address, areas where human factors can engage in collaborations with nursing, and the unique challenges of conducting human factors research and applied projects within the nursing domain. This panel will also provide an opportunity for human factors practitioners to gain insight into new opportunities to improve nursing practice and engage with an often overlooked role within the healthcare team. The panel will provide the opportunity for the audience to engage in discussion with the panelists about how to move forward as a discipline in collaborating with nurses and addressing some of their most pressing challenges to improve nursing practice, burnout, workflow, and patient safety.
